Summertime is a busy time for Virden Parks and Recreation.
The Virden Pool is in operation from 6:30am until 930pm each weekday and from 1pm-8pm each weekend and offers a large range of programming from lap swims to swimming lessons to public swimming and special events such as the two Aqua Zumba sessions being held on August 14th and the Pool Party being held on August 18th.
In addition to all the activity in the pool the Pool Staff are busy getting ready to take part in the Virden Wild West Daze and Indoor Rodeo Parade on August 18th.
Inside the Virden Recreation Centre the Arena has been host to the Virden Collegiate graduation ceremonies which involved removal of the ice, followed by the return of the ice for the Cutting Edge Skating School which is in its final session this week, Sticks and Pucks being offered today and Thursday and hockey schools, practices and games.
The ice will come out again at the end of the week to make way for the Virden Indoor Rodeo and be put back in following the Rodeo to make way for the Virden Oil Capitals practices as well as figure skating, hockey teams and public skating events.
The Community Banquet Hall in the Virden Recreation Centre has been home to numerous socials, weddings and other community events each week and will be home to events related to the Virden Indoor Rodeo which begins in just one weeks time.
Maintaining Victoria Park is part of Virden Parks and Recreations role and this year the park has been home to a number of events from the announcement of Virden?s newest hockey team, the MJHL Virden Oil Capitals to a series of Music in the Park events and barbeques.
The next Music in the Park is tomorrow, Thursday August 11th, beginning at 6pm and features a barbeque hosted by the Cadets followed by performances by Kendra Kvemshagen and Gerry Lund and Friends.
Victoria Park is also the home of Virden?s outdoor tennis courts which have been getting quite a bit of use this year.
Virden Parks and Recreation is also responsible for maintenance of the baseball diamonds, which are in great shape and the soccer pitch which was home to the Challenger Sports Summer Soccer Camp this year.
There are lots of recreational activities planned for this week and the coming weeks.
Take some time to have some fun at the Virden Pool, Recreation Centre or at one of the other recreational offerings.
